There are a variety of diets available that work quickly to help you lose fat. While these are not recommended for those who have a lot of weight to lose, they can be useful for people who are wanting to lose a few pounds quickly, perhaps for a wedding or a reunion. Also known as the Lemon Cleanse and the Maple Syrup diet, the Master Cleanse Diet has gained popularity through the years for this type of use. Even celebrities are attracted to it.
The diet was started in 1941 by Stanley Burroughs, but it was Peter Glickman who popularized it when he included the diet in his book entitled Lose Weight, Have More Energy and Be Happier in 10 Days. Burroughs states that it is a detoxification diet. It removes harmful toxins in the body. In addition to that, it also eliminates cravings for alcohol, drugs, tobacco, and junk foods. This is possible because with the Master Cleanse Diet, the only thing that a person can consume is 6-10 glasses of lemonade, a glass of salt water, and 2 glasses of a certain herbal tea.
Throughout the years, the diet has received a number of praises claiming that it cleanses the body. Promoters and supporters of it also claim that acne and other skin problems will be gone when the person undergoes this regimen. Above all, it receives attention because of the claim that it will make people lose weight in just a few days.
However, the diet also received a number of criticisms. The Master Cleanse Diet was found to have only 600 to 1000 calories per day. Clearly, this is below the required amount of calories per day which is 2000. This means that undergoing the diet is a major reduction in necessary calories for 10 days.
Now you know the answer to “What is the Master Cleanse diet?” You know that it can indeed make you lose weight in just a few days and because it will help you lose weight all over your body, you might lose belly fat as well. But before you try it, consider the criticisms. Many people swear by diets like this (cleansing or fasting) for quick weight loss of a few pounds but it would not be recommended for long term use. Remember to do your due diligence and find a program that will work for you at keeping excess weight off for good.

The occasional documentary strand of “When something-something Goes Wrong” is back for another bite on BBC3. This time around it’s actress Mikyla Dodd of Hollyoaks fame who takes a look at what can and does go wrong when people try diets that aren’t made up of eating healthily and taking regular exercise. Over the years Mikyla has dealt with her own weighty demons by losing 11 stone, so she knows a thing or two about diets. She takes a tour through a whole range of dieting disasters as she discovers the dangers of diet pills; talks to those whose diets gave them saggy skin and smelly sweat; and meets those whose extreme dieting put them under the knife, brought on seizures and made their life an addictive hell.
